We will be hosting a gong shoot for centerfire rifles and handguns on Sunday, December 7 at the rifle range beginning at 9:00 AM.   We will  have 7”, 12” and 18” gongs hanging at 100 yards.  The one-time event entry fee for all matches will be $5.00, then each shooter in each event will contribute $1.00 per event to the pot, with the pot distributed based on competitors’ performance using the “Canadian system”. Examples of matches will be 4 shots at the 12” gong, standing, with any sights (including scopes) using a centerfire rifle.  Another match will be 4 shots, 12” gong, standing, using open or aperture sights only on any centerfire rifle.  “Gray-bearded” competitors will have the option to shoot from a seated position, unsupported (i.e. not benched) to maximize participation for all.   Unlimited number competitors in each match, the more shooters the bigger to pot pay out.  Based on interest and participant initiative, examples of other informal matches could be centerfire revolvers, bench, at the 18” gong.  Or centerfire pistols (e.g. TC Contenders or similar in rifle calibers), any sights from a bench at the 7” gong.

Shooters should bring at least an iron sighted rifle and a scoped centerfire rifle, no limits on caliber, any safe ammo including FMJ , except no .50 BMG and no amour piercing rounds.   Bring a pistol if you have one, let’s see what you can do!  After we shoot a few “formal” matches we can open it up to any match competitors wish to participate in, for example try the 7” gong with whatever competitors may mutually agree on for a firearm.   Or limit the match to as-issued military rifles only.  I’ll bring a military rifle and challenge all comers!

The goal of this event is to be safe and have fun!
